TREATMENT OPTIONS

acupuncture

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles / pins at specific points on energy channels on the body. This process stimulates movement of energy (Qi, pronounced "chee") within the body and thus allowing natural healing to take place.  Treatments will be tailored to your specific needs and acupuncture points selected according to the ancient Chinese diagnosis of your condition.  The needles will remain in place for approximately 25 minutes. Acupuncture needles are hair-thin, flexible and disposable.  The sensation is described differently by each person but most will say there is little to no pain upon insertion. Qi, or vital energy, can feel deep and dull or it can radiate along channels.  Western research has found that acupuncture needles increase the person’s levels of serotonin, dopamine and endorphins, which relax the body and sedate the mind. After a treatment, some will feel energized and some will feel relaxed.

cupping

Cupping is a traditional Chinese medicine technique in which cups are applied to the skin to create gentle suction. This process helps increase circulation to the area, supporting the movement of blood and lymph while easing muscle tension and promoting recovery in soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. The cups are typically left in place for approximately 5–10 minutes. Cupping may be used to support a range of concerns, including muscle tightness, injuries, respiratory conditions, and general tension. After treatment, it is common to notice temporary red or purple marks where the cups were placed. These marks are a normal response to increased circulation and are not a sign of injury. They usually fade over several days. Some people feel relaxed or slightly fatigued following cupping, similar to the effects of a deep tissue massage. It is recommended to rest as needed and stay well hydrated after your session.

gua sha

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves gentle, repeated strokes over lubricated skin using a smooth-edged instrument. This process helps stimulate circulation, support the movement of blood and lymph, and promote healing in areas of tension or restriction. Gua sha may be used to help relieve concerns such as sinus congestion, headaches, TMJ discomfort, and general muscle tension. By improving circulation and easing tightness, it can also support skin health, leaving the complexion looking more refreshed and revitalized. The instrument is applied with light to moderate pressure and moved along muscles or along the pathways of the acupuncture meridians. It is common to see temporary redness or light bruising in the treated area following a session. These marks are a normal response to increased circulation and typically fade within a few days.

ear acupuncture

Ear acupuncture is a specialized form of acupuncture that involves stimulating specific points on the ear to support the body’s natural healing processes. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the ear is viewed as a microsystem that reflects the entire body, with points corresponding to different organs and systems. By gently stimulating these points, ear acupuncture may help regulate the body’s energy, support balance, and promote overall well-being. It is often used to assist with concerns such as stress, anxiety, pain management, and sleep disturbances, as well as to support general health and prevention. Treatment typically involves the use of fine needles or small ear seeds that may be left in place for a short period of time. The process is gentle, and many people find it calming and relaxing.
